For my son V, we did a “Wild One” jungle-themed cake smash, and I wanted something along those lines for her too, because she’s just as wild, if not more 😄 you can check the full post on it by clicking the link below-

I had this simple vision of hanging flowers for her first birthday- something soft, warm, and a little magical. I wanted it to feel like her… playful, curious, and full of life.

A wildflower theme felt so right for her-it just naturally fit her personality and the kind of moment I wanted to create.

Hanging Flowers Backdrop

Let’s start with the hanging flowers- this is what really brings the whole look together. All you need is a white string and flowers (you can even use flowers from a vase). I got a Wildflower garland set from Amazon and initially thought the flowers would already be attached to the strings, but they weren’t, so I had to tie each flower individually.

This was definitely the most time-consuming part of the setup, but trust me, it’s absolutely worth it. It adds such a magical touch and makes your photos look stunning!

I started by setting up the backdrop stand, then measured and cut each string to the length I wanted, and tied the flowers onto them one by one.

The set came with 37 different flowers, so I created a simple repeating pattern, switching between different sizes and color blooms, with leaves in between to give it a more natural and fuller look.

I tied the strings to the backdrop strands, leaving some space in the center for the 1 banner.

Make sure to place the backdrop stand a little away from the wall to get that hanging effect-it really makes a difference in how the setup looks.

After the event, I repurposed all the flowers into a vase, and it turned out so beautiful.

One Banner And White Backdrop

To cover the wall, I attached a white cloth as the backdrop. DON”T put the backdrop cloth on the stand or touch the backdrop stand to the wall, you won’t get that hanging effect -so make sure to keep a little distance between the stand and the wall.

If your fabric is lightweight, you can try securing it with white painter’s tape. Mine didn’t hold well with tape, so I ended up using push pins to keep it in place.

I attached the “1” banner to the center of the cloth, leaving that area clear of flower strands so it stands out nicely.

Fuzzy & Woven Floor Mat

For the floor mat, I considered two options-both from Amazon that I had used for previous decor. The white fuzzy mat reflects more light, which helps keep photos looking brighter and cleaner.

The woven rug was also beautiful with the flowers and added a lovely, whimsical touch; it complemented the overall theme really well. However, in photos, it picked up warmer tones and appeared more yellow due to lighting and camera white balance, which wasn’t the look I was going for.

One Marker

I picked up two different “1” markers for the photos-one was a small wooden “1,” and the other was a larger cardboard balloon box.

The larger cardboard “1” worked beautifully as a statement piece in wider shots, with its floral details adding a subtle, natural touch that complemented the woven rug. The smaller wooden “1” was perfect for close-up photos. Having both gave me the flexibility to switch things up and capture a variety of looks.

That’s everything for the decor details—now let’s get into the cake smash! 🎂✨

Wildflower Theme CakeSmash

My little girl loves strawberries, so we got her a strawberry shortcake, thinking she’d have so much fun with it, but she didn’t take a single bite at first. She just poked it with her finger, got a little cake on her dress, and immediately didn’t like that her dress got messy, so she walked away.

But the moment she saw her brother happily digging into the cake, she came right back, curious and ready to try. We handed her a spoon, and what happened next still makes us smile.

She started feeding all of us cake, one by one, like a little host… but didn’t take a single bite herself. Cake smash? It was more like a cake serving ceremony 😄

And just like that, her first birthday cake smash turned into something completely her-sweet, a little unexpected, and full of personality.

That’s a wrap! I hope this gave you some inspiration to create something simple, beautiful, and meaningful for your little one’s special day. ✨

Sometimes it’s the easiest setups and the most unexpected moments that turn into the sweetest memories. 💛
